Infertility is a common condition, affecting 10 to 15% of reproductive-aged couples. In those attempting conception, approximately 50% of women will be pregnant after 3 months of trying, 75% will pregnant after 6 months of trying, and 85% will be pregnant after 1 year. We recommend starting an evaluation if you are not pregnant after 1 year of trying. If you are 35 years or older, we can start the evaluation after 6 months of trying to conceive. Menstrual cycles with heavy flow can be normal. However, if they start to interfere with your day-to-day activities or if they become irregular (flow or timing), you should be evaluated by your doctor. Causes of heavy bleeding can include hormone imbalances or abnormalities within the uterus, such as fibroids or polyps.
