A colonoscopy is a procedure done by a Gastroenterologist or General Surgeon to screen for colon cancer. It is recommended that you start screening at age 50 unless you have a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease, a history of colonic polyps or colon cancer, or have a 1st degree relative with a diagnosis of colon cancer. In these cases, you may need to be screened earlier. Please ask for a list of recommended physicians.
